Hot Town, Summer in the City

When you live at the beach or are lucky enough to vacation here, you know that summer nights are just as unforgettable as sunny summer days. Summer nights are filled with fun, laughter and music that never ends. When I’m driving, there are certain songs that take me back to summer nights when my only concern was which pizza place would be open to stop in on the way home. So many of my favorite memories happened on summer nights, with great friends while we listened to cover bands. These days, my summer nights are much different, but yours don’t have to be – the night scene is hotter than ever! Whether you are looking to enjoy cocktails with your feet in the sand, or to dance the night away to your favorite shore band, we’ve got it all happening right here for you seven nights a week!
One of my favorite places to go to in the summer is The Ocean Drive, 3915 Landis Ave. It always has great bands and knows how to keep the party going. If you plan on starting the night early, visit the Sandbar. Its lineup for the summer includes Laura Lea every Monday, Mike Thompson every Wednesday, Gypsy Wisdom Duo every Thursday, and so much more! The Saturday afternoon show with the Piano Fight Club (Dueling Pianos) is back, while Secret Service plays inside. There is live music every day for an extended happy hour from 5-9pm, and make sure you stop in for No Shower Happy Hour every Saturday and Sunday when you can come right from the beach! Every Thursday night is Girls’ Night with Gypsy Wisdom rocking the stage and ladies get in free until midnight! The ever-popular band Go Go Gadjet is back every Sunday night, and some Friday nights as well. And Secret Service is still going strong after 34 years in the business. It plays every Sunday from 5-9pm, Wednesday nights from 10pm-2am and on select Saturdays from 6-10pm.
“Summer 2019 at The Ocean Drive is jammed full of great live music and DJs,” says owner Ralph Pasceri. “Every day at the Ocean Drive and our outside Sandbar & Grill, we feature the region’s best pop cover bands, DJs, and acoustic entertainers.”
If you are looking for something on the more mellow side, O’Donnell’s Pour House, Sea Isle’s only Irish Pub, is located right next door. The pub-like atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to grab a beer and a booth with your friends and listen to the live music playing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Every Monday night is Quizzo with comedian and Philly radio personality Big Daddy Graham.
Another place that is always hopping is the La Costa Deck Bar and Lounge, 4000 Landis Ave. There is live music at its deck bar seven days a week. Musical acts include FunZaLuv, The Flamin’ Caucasians and Mystery Machine. Every Monday, Jumper Duo is in the house and every Sunday, the man himself, Jerry Blavat, gets the dance floor going from 4-8pm, followed by The Insiders Band from 5-9pm and then Split Decision plays from 10pm-2am. For a special event, everyone’s favorite Sea Isle lifeguard, Nick Horn, will be playing on July 10.
The Oar House, 318 42nd Place & the bay, has a great lineup for the summer as well. Outside at the Alley Bar is live music seven days a week from 6-9pm. Jamie Salvatore is in the house every Thursday. Local guy Andrew Bednarek plays every Friday, while Delco Acoustic plays some Saturdays and Matt McPherson some Sundays. Inside there is live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night including acts such as: 40 North, Steve Moore Duo, Mystery Machine and FunZaLuv. Make sure you take advantage of the spruced-up dance floor!
“Our summer lineup at The Oar House is one you don’t want to miss!” says owner Jimmy Bennett. “Enjoy a cocktail at the Alley Bar seven nights a week while you listen to live music, or come inside and take a spin on our newly renovated dance floor. We have something for everyone!”

A newer place to the scene is Beachwood, 8600 Landis Ave. Even if you don’t have time to stay for the entertainment, make sure you are least stop by to see this place – it’s absolutely gorgeous and the perfect backdrop for your night-out pictures! “Sink into a comfy couch in Beachwood’s buzzy lounge this summer, where our live entertainment lineup will delight the senses as much as our specialty cocktails please the palate,” says Patrick Deely, General Manager.
Beachwood has live entertainment from 8pm-midnight in the lounge every Friday and Saturday. Acts include Robin Gazzara, Shaun LaBoy, local favorite Sean Loosh, Alexandra March and so much more!

If you are looking for a complete change of scenery, head over to Avalon for the night! The Princeton Bar and Grill, 21st Street and Dune Drive, also has live entertainment all summer long. On Tuesdays, Bobby Fingers will be playing the piano from 7-11pm. Stop in for popular acts such as Stellar Mojo, Liquid A, Split Decision, The Zone, Jumper and so many more! There will be three special ticketed events over the summer. On July 1, G. Love is in the house, July 7 brings in Almost Queen, and Boat House Row will take the stage July 21 with its “Yacht Rock Experience.” Tickets for these three concerts can be purchased on their website where you can also find a full entertainment schedule, visit princetonbar.com.
Additional special events include a special 50th Anniversary Woodstock on the block on Sunday, Aug. 11. The Princeton will host 15 local musicians for the event in the Rock Room. On Aug. 18, stop in for Tour de Shore. This event is a must-see. People line up every summer to watch the parade of the crazy and unique costumes that are displayed. Finally, we know this story is about nighttime entertainment but sometimes you need help to get moving after a wild Saturday night. The Princeton has an extended brunch menu. Grab a cocktail to get rid of that Sunday morning hangover while you dine and listen to live music.
“I am really excited about all of our live entertainment this summer,” says owner Lizanne Tracy. “We have a fantastic lineup of bands playing in The Rock Room on weekends as well as a few special concert events. Don’t miss Sunday Brunch and Tuesday night’s piano bar. There is always something happening at the Princeton.”
If you are hanging out with an old friend and want to catch up over a few beers, there’s a place for that. If you are heading out with a whole crew for a wild night, there’s a place for that, too. Whatever you are looking for, you can find it right here in Sea Isle.
